FAQ
Facial treatment — common questions
My skin is oily and congested but also dry and tight. Which is it?
Usually both, and usually at the same time — it's one of the most common presentations we see, especially in a humid coastal climate. Congestion and dehydration aren't opposites; skin can be short on water and heavy on oil simultaneously, and stripping the oil tends to make the dehydration worse. A HydraFacial addresses both in the same pass, which is exactly why it's our default recommendation.
Which facial is safe for darker skin tones?
HydraFacial, dermaplaning, and the Jan Marini Go & Glow Facial are all appropriate across skin tones. Deeper chemical resurfacing requires a genuine conversation about your skin type and pigment response — this is not a place for a generic answer, and any clinic that gives you one without looking at you is being careless.
I'm pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I still get a facial?
Many options remain appropriate, but not all of them, and the answer depends on the specific products and actives involved. Tell us when you book so we can build the treatment around it rather than improvise at the chair.
How do I know if I need a facial or something stronger?
Rough shorthand: if your concern is on the surface — dullness, congestion, hydration, glow — a facial is the right tool. If it's structural — scarring, deep texture, laxity — you want collagen remodeling, which means microneedling, and no number of facials will substitute. If it's pigment or redness, ask about the laser. We'd rather route you correctly than sell you the wrong thing repeatedly.

Most facial pages list treatments and hope you’ll self-diagnose. That’s backwards. You know what’s bothering you — you just don’t necessarily know which product on a menu addresses it.

The most common complaint we hear, and the most reliably solved. Dullness is usually a surface problem — dead cell buildup scattering light instead of reflecting it — layered on top of dehydration. Exfoliate, extract, hydrate, and skin starts catching light again. You’ll see it the same day.
”My pores are congested and I’m breaking out”
→ Platinum HydraFacial (for the extended extractions), or the standard Helix HydraFacial if it’s mild.
The extraction step is the whole point here: vacuum suction pulls congestion out of the pore rather than forcing it out. No squeezing, no bruising, no blotchy aftermath. If your skin is genuinely congested, the extra extraction time on the Platinum is what you’re paying for — not a fancier serum.

This is the deep end. Pigment doesn’t respond to a glow treatment — it needs genuine resurfacing or a wavelength aimed at it. Three tiers: Clarify (acne and congestion) at $149, Refine (texture and tone) at $179, and Transformation (advanced anti-aging) at $229. The trade is a few days of visible peeling for a result a HydraFacial can’t reach. Come talk to us about which of the two suits your skin, because for pigment the wrong choice is worse than no choice.

We put this on the facials page on purpose. Texture and scarring are structural, and structural problems want collagen remodeling — not a better exfoliation. Twelve facials will not do what a series of microneedling sessions does. Anyone selling you the twelve facials knows that.
