FAQ
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy — common questions
What is HBOT, and how does it feel?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has you breathe oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which increases the amount of oxygen your blood can carry to tissue. Most people describe it as deeply relaxing — you'll feel a gentle fullness in your ears as the pressure changes, similar to a plane's descent, and then you're free to rest, read, or nap for the session.
I'm claustrophobic. Is this going to be a problem?
It's the most common hesitation we hear, and it's worth taking seriously rather than waving off. Tell us before you book. Most people find the reality considerably less confining than the mental image — you're not sealed into a tube in the dark, and you can communicate throughout. But if it's a genuine phobia rather than a mild unease, say so and we'll talk frankly about whether this is for you.
Why does the 90-day expiry exist on packages?
Because HBOT works on a cadence, and a package of twenty sessions spread over three years isn't a protocol — it's a gift card. The 90-day window exists to make sure a package you bought gets used the way it was meant to be. All pre-paid packages must be used within 90 days of purchase, and unused sessions are non-transferable and non-refundable. Buy the tier you'll genuinely use in a quarter, not the one with the best per-session math on paper.
How many sessions do I need?
It depends entirely on what you're working toward. Recovery-focused clients often stack sessions in a tighter block; longevity-focused clients tend to settle into a steady weekly or biweekly rhythm. We'll map a cadence to your goals at your consultation rather than sell you a package you don't need. Individual results vary.
Is it really the only HBOT on the island?
Yes — Helix is the only clinic offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the area, along with the only NeuralCheck neurological assessments. That's a straightforward fact about local availability rather than a claim about outcomes.
Can I combine HBOT with anything else?
That's the entire idea behind the $40 bundles — two modalities paired because they work better together than apart. Sequence matters, and if you want more than two in a visit we'll order them deliberately: HBOT first, then PEMF with red light, then contrast therapy, then compression.
The details
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in full
The only chamber on the island
If you want hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Galveston, this is where it is. Helix Biowellness® operates the only HBOT chamber in the area — along with the only NeuralCheck neurological assessments.
That’s a statement about local availability, not a claim about outcomes. But it’s the practical reason most people find this page: the nearest alternative involves a drive up I-45 and half your day.
Inside the chamber
At normal pressure, the amount of oxygen your blood can carry is largely capped by your hemoglobin — those cells are essentially saturated already, which is why breathing hard doesn’t dramatically increase delivery.
HBOT works around that ceiling. Under pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into your blood plasma — the fluid itself, not just the red cells. That’s a delivery route that isn’t limited by hemoglobin saturation, and it’s the whole mechanism: pressurized oxygen to support recovery, energy, and cellular repair.
What a session feels like
You get in. The chamber pressurizes gradually. You feel a gentle fullness in your ears — the same sensation as a plane’s descent, handled the same way, by swallowing or yawning.
And then, for the next sixty to ninety minutes, absolutely nothing is required of you.
That’s it. You can read. You can nap — plenty of people do. You can lie there and let a Tuesday afternoon belong to you for the first time in a while. Most people describe it as deeply relaxing, and a meaningful number describe it as the only hour of the week where nobody can reach them.
About the claustrophobia thing
It’s the most common hesitation and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance.
Tell us before you book. Most people find the reality far less confining than the mental picture — you’re not sealed into a dark tube, and you can communicate throughout. But if what you have is a genuine phobia rather than mild unease, say so and we’ll have a straightforward conversation about whether this is a good fit. We’d rather have that conversation on the phone than after you’ve paid.
Pricing, and how to choose a tier
- Single session — $99
- 5 sessions — $449 ($89.80 each)
- 10 sessions — $799 ($79.90 each)
- 20 sessions — $1,379 ($68.95 each)
All pre-paid HBOT packages must be used within 90 days of purchase. Unused sessions are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Read that footnote before you buy the twenty. The per-session math on the biggest package is genuinely attractive — right up until you realize twenty sessions in ninety days means more than one a week, every week, for a quarter. If your calendar can’t hold that, the ten-session tier is the better purchase even though it costs more per session.
We put the arithmetic here rather than at the register on purpose. Buy the tier you’ll use.
And why the 90 days exists at all
Because HBOT works on a cadence, and a package spread thinly across two years isn’t a protocol — it’s a gift card. The expiry is there to make sure a package you bought gets used the way it was meant to work.
Sequencing it properly
Stack the $69 1-Hour Recovery Room onto your HBOT session and HBOT stays where it belongs: first. The room covers contrast, PEMF, red light, BrainTap and compression for the hour after.
- HBOT (60–90 min)
- 30 min PEMF + Red-Light Therapy + BrainTap
- Contrast therapy (sauna/heat → cold plunge)
- Compression therapy
HBOT runs 60–90 minutes and is booked separately; the Recovery Room is the hour after. Book both and allow a half-day. The room includes 10% off an IV drip the same day.
The order is the product. That’s why the room is priced as one hour rather than as a list of modalities.
If you’re going to be a regular
Do this arithmetic too. Peak ($299/month) includes unlimited biohacking plus a monthly drip, 1 HBOT session a month and 10% off. Limitless ($499/month) includes 2 HBOT sessions monthly, everything in Peak, an annual lab panel, monthly 1:1 coaching, and 15% off.
For anyone in weekly, the membership beats the packages — and it doesn’t expire in 90 days.
Where HBOT belongs
Downstream of data, not beside it. The clients who get the most from the chamber are the ones who ran functional labs first, built a protocol, and measured again — rather than buying twenty sessions and hoping.
