How neurotoxin works

Certain lines on your face aren’t damage — they’re habit. Decades of squinting into Gulf glare, of raising your brows when someone says something surprising, of pulling the same expression during the same conversations. The muscle contracts, the skin folds, and eventually the fold stays after the expression leaves.

A neurotoxin interrupts that loop. Placed precisely, in a small dose, it quiets the signal telling a specific muscle to contract as hard as it’s been contracting. The line softens because the habit stops reinforcing it.

That’s the whole mechanism, and understanding it explains most of what people get wrong. It’s a muscle treatment, not a skin treatment. Which means it’s excellent for dynamic lines and does very little for texture, sun damage, or volume loss. Volume is what filler is for.

We’re direct about this because the brand question comes up constantly and the real answer is that the injector matters more than the label on the vial. All modern neurotoxins do the same fundamental thing. Where they differ is at the margins: onset, duration, diffusion, how they behave in a particular muscle. Those differences are real, and they’re exactly the kind of thing to decide with your injector rather than from a search result.

Where a neurotoxin earns its keep

The classic three: forehead lines, the 11’s between your brows, crow’s feet at the outer eye.

The ones people don’t expect: TMJ and jaw clenching via the masseters. Migraines. Hyperhidrosis — underarms, hands, feet, scalp, under the breast. Traptox for shoulders that live somewhere near your ears. A Nefertiti lift along the jaw and neck.

Filler does the other half

Neurotoxin relaxes muscle. Filler replaces volume. They solve different problems and they work well together — a smooth forehead above deflated cheeks doesn’t read as refreshed, it reads as odd.

We use the RHA® Collection exclusively, because it’s designed to move with your face rather than sit still in it. Pricing is by the syringe — $399 for a half syringe, $599 for a full — and that’s the same rate whether we’re treating lips, cheeks, chin, tear troughs, jawline, temples, or hands. We don’t price by “area,” because a syringe goes further on some faces than others and pretending otherwise means someone is overpaying.
